Amanda is the strategy assistant for strategic engagement at MCAN. Her responsibilities include the management of social media strategies, website content, and other external communications. Amanda also facilitates and develops content for MCAN’s blog and other online stories, and oversees the analytics of all digital communication platforms.
Prior to joining MCAN, Amanda worked in upstate New York as the AmeriCorps*VISTA service learning coordinator and as the community and communication associate for an all-girls charter school for five years. She expanded the service-learning program, built and managed the tutoring program, and developed many partnerships with community organizations to expand experiential learning for students. She credits her experiences in New York for her continued passion in college and career readiness for students of color.
Amanda earned her bachelor’s degree in social relations and policy from Michigan State University in 2013. She credits her grandmother and her friends for their support and encouragement of her continued reach for higher education. Amanda hopes to one day earn her masters within the education field in order to encourage the next generation of promising scholars.
Outside of MCAN, Amanda loves live music, dance, art, and poetry. She also enjoys volunteering in local soup kitchens cooking for the homeless or families experiencing food insecurity and hunger.
