As chief of staff, Janaya provides high-level consultation, advice, leadership, and action — helping to ensure MCAN achieves the priorities and goals laid out in its strategic plan.

Janaya began her career at AF Group, a holding company of insurance brands, where she served in various departments including claims, business development, and human resources. During her time there, she focused on process, technology, and people-focused solutions. Prior to joining MCAN, Janaya served as an assistant to the senior vice president at Lansing Community College. In this role, she became skilled in high-level administrative tasks including strategic planning, board relations, budget oversight, communications, and internal programs that focused on key priorities, including equity, access, and attainment. While at LCC, Janaya also worked in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, which provides support services to various student populations designed to promote academic support, leadership development, and community engagement opportunities in an inclusive environment. Her time in the office permitted her to elevate academic success among traditional and non-traditional college students through a variety of programs in both pre-college and college-level programs.

Janaya holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Davenport University and a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University. She was inspired to attend college because of the limitless professional and personal experiences accessible through higher education.

Outside of work, Janaya enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and any excuse to be in the sunshine.
