Karla Pérez Garza

Program Supervisor, West MI Region

Karla serves as the program supervisor for the West Michigan region of AdviseMI. In her role, she focuses on the supervision and development of 15-20 full-time college advisers while managing partnerships with partner schools.

Prior to joining MCAN, Karla worked at Ferris State University at the Center for Latin@ Studies. In this capacity, Karla provided mentorship and support for Latin@ students navigating the college process for the first time as well as guiding them in their efforts of self-advocacy.

Karla obtained an Associate of Applied Arts and Science degree from West Shore Community College in 2014 and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Ferris State University in 2015. Growing up in a mixed-status family, the path to college was never guaranteed. However, from a young age it became clear that education was the key to representation. Thanks to the support of family, teachers, professors, and increased exposure to Latin@ professionals, it became clear to Karla that she too was college material.

Outside of MCAN, Karla loves to explore new places and sharing those experiences with family and friends.
