As strategic engagement intern, Kate supports MCAN’s external communication tasks. She is a student at Central Michigan University and credits her drive for postsecondary education to a love of reading cultivated by her family from a young age.
Kate spent a year at Mid Michigan College before transferring to CMU. There, with encouragement from a few stellar educators, she took on the challenge of combining her passions and signed two majors — integrative public relations and women & gender studies.
In the summer of 2020, Kate volunteered with Michigan United, where she facilitated training sessions for grassroots organizing and researched bills moving through the state legislature. She was a part of a small team of youth activists who met with their state representative during Michigan United's Capitol Week. On this team, Kate served as issue speaker, press contact, and press release writer.
Kate’s education and experiences have led her on a path toward a career in advocacy and nonprofit work, and she couldn't be happier. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling with loved ones and — when Michigan's weather allows it — hiking and being in nature. She also loves the art of storytelling, meaning her reading list is a mile long and movie night is the highlight of her week.
