As an AmeriCorps VISTA who supports MCAN’s resource and engagement efforts, Kate helps build partnerships with various organizations and create college-going resources for students across the state.
Kate is a Central Michigan University graduate who started her postsecondary education at Mid Michigan College. Her two majors, integrative public relations and women and gender studies, have helped her pursue a career in advocacy and nonprofit work. Kate’s drive for education can be traced back to a love of reading cultivated by her family from a young age.
In the summer of 2020, Kate volunteered with Michigan United, where she facilitated training sessions on grassroots advocacy and researched bills moving through the state legislature. She was a part of a small team of youth activists who met with their state representative during Michigan United's Capitol Week. On this team, Kate served as issue speaker, press contact, and press release writer. In the summer of 2021, she worked as an intern with MCAN and assisted with a variety of communication and outreach projects.
Outside of work, Kate enjoys traveling with loved ones and — when Michigan's weather allows it — hiking and being in nature. She also loves the art of storytelling, meaning her reading list is a mile long and movie night is the highlight of her week.
