As senior director of operations, Jan Dowker oversees MCAN’s finance, strategic engagement, human resources, administration, and network engagement functions, ensuring that daily operations run smoothly and align with organizational priorities. Jan leads cross‑departmental teams, manages systems and compliance, and drives operational strategy to support MCAN’s statewide impact.
Jan brings more than 20 years of executive leadership experience in the nonprofit sector, including roles overseeing governance, finance, operations, human resources, and strategic engagement. She most recently served as executive director of the Denver Broncos Alumni Charities, where she strengthened board governance, led revenue-generating events, and expanded alumni and sponsor engagement. During her two decades with the Denver Broncos Alumni Association, she worked in roles that helped build organizational infrastructure, manage high‑impact events, and oversee stakeholder communications. Previously, as executive director of Berthoud Habitat for Humanity, she led full operations, secured six‑figure grants, and achieved a key point of pride: utilizing state property tax exemptions that saved the organization $60,000 annually. Across all roles, Jan focused on strengthening internal systems, fostering community partnerships, and advancing mission-driven impact.
Jan holds a Master of Nonprofit Management from Regis University, having graduated with honors as a member of Nu Lambda Mu, the International Honor Society for Nonprofit Management, Philanthropy, and Social Entrepreneurship & Enterprise. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Saginaw Valley State University, where she graduated magna cum laude. As the first in her family to pursue a four‑year degree, she views education as a pathway to independence and economic opportunity. Mentors and formative professional experiences inspire her commitment to lifelong learning and to expanding access so others can pursue their own educational goals.
Outside of MCAN, Jan remains active in her community through years of elected and appointed service, including roles as mayor pro tem, town trustee, and planning and zoning commission chair in Berthoud, as well as committee work with regional transportation and municipal policy organizations. She also continues her commitment to women’s education and philanthropy as a member of P.E.O. International and regularly engages in local community service and civic leadership activities. Jan is active with her family, friends, and pup, Izzy; and she enjoys spending time in Michigan's outdoors.
