Collaborative Counseling: Next-Gen School Counselor Coaching and Mentorship
The demand for effective school counselors is higher than ever, yet many new school counselors enter the field without the structured support necessary for long-term success. In response, Michigan College Access Network, in partnership with the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals and supported by the Michigan Association for College Admission Counseling, is launching Collaborative Counseling — Michigan’s first statewide mentoring and coaching program that is designed by school counselors and intended for school counselors in their first three years.
New school counselors play a critical role in supporting students’ academic, social-emotional, and career development. They are also uniquely poised to lead the charge in ensuring students are socially, academically, informationally, and financially prepared for postsecondary education for all students. Transitioning into the role can be overwhelming without structured mentorship and ongoing training and support. This program pairs highly qualified, trained school counselors with new school counselors to help them develop confidence, enhance their skills, increase job satisfaction, and improve outcomes for students.
