LANSING, Mich. — Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) is now hiring 20 college completion coaches to serve on community college campuses across Michigan. MCAN’s College Completion Corps program places full-time AmeriCorps members on campuses throughout the state. The goal of the program is to increase persistence and completion of community college among first-generation college-going students, low-income students, and students of color.

Members will serve as coaches to a defined cohort of 100-150 students over the course of a year, guiding students through the development of a college completion plan and assisting with the navigation of an academic year. The purpose of this program is to assist students with their acclimation to campus, build their knowledge of campus systems and resources, and help them successfully persist to completion.

“We’ve made great steps in improving the high school to college pipeline, but we need to make sure students continue to be supported when they get to college,” said Jenny McArdle, MCAN’s Director of Service Strategy. “Serving in this role is a great way for AmeriCorps members to help students achieve their educational goals while also building valuable career skills.”

This service role provides an annual stipend of $25,000, one week of all-expense-paid training, health insurance, and a $6,195 education award to pay back student loans or pursue graduate education. Members will serve December 7, 2020 through December 6, 2021.

Applicants must be a United States citizen, a national or a legal permanent resident, and at least 18 years old. Proof of age and citizenship will be required during the selection process.
