Educated Workforce Advisory Board

The Educated Workforce Advisory Board is a new coalition with the ultimate purpose of elevating existing collaborations and building systemic connections among K-12, higher education, and the workforce system in support of Michigan’s Sixty by 30 goal. Representatives from the three identified systems work together to bring invaluable perspectives on leading bold, system-level changes that deliver more equitable outcomes for Michigan’s students.

This advisory board guides MCAN’s work as articulated in its Strategy for an Educated Workforce. Board members bring trust and credibility to MCAN’s efforts to promote cross-sector collaboration and connect state-level initiatives to local regions/communities and vice versa, ensuring local and regional considerations are integrated into all planning and decision-making.

Higher Education Strategy Council

The Higher Education Strategy Council, previously known as the Higher Education Advisory Board, is crafted with the overall vision and purpose of hosting stakeholders in support of MCAN’s mission and work affecting systems-change within all higher education institutions. This council allows for collaboration among these institutions to help achieve the statewide Sixty by 30 attainment goal. Council membership greatly informs MCAN’s Higher Education Innovation departmental work that aims to increase student access, success, and attainment by providing space to understand and evaluate the landscape of higher education in Michigan and encourage best practices. Each member has been appointed by their institution to represent their higher education institution.

Local College Access Networks

Local College Access Networks (LCANs) are community-based college access alliances supported by a team of community and education leaders representing K-12, higher education, the nonprofit sector, government, business, and philanthropy. LCANs coordinate and expand programs, services, and resources that help more students pursue postsecondary educational opportunities. More specifically, each LCAN sets goals focused on student success, establishes a system of data gathering and analysis, reports results, and holds partners accountable for performance.

 

MIHEART

The Michigan Higher Education Roundtable (MIHEART) is comprised of business, military, law enforcement, K-12 education, higher education, and government leaders passionate about increasing and retaining talent in Michigan. The group works together as an ongoing collaboration to promote, advocate for, and guide policy changes that will improve our state’s postsecondary education and credential attainment levels – and to keep at this the work from Administration to Administration.

Michigan Promise Zones Association

MCAN works closely with the Michigan Promise Zones Association by providing technical assistance and support to ensure that these "placed-based" scholarships are helping students pursue a postsecondary education.
