LANSING, Mich. — Michigan College Access Network is proud to announce that John Kaczynski, executive director of governmental and community affairs at Saginaw Valley State University, has joined the MCAN Board of Directors as an at-large member. In his current role, he works with legislators in Lansing and Washington, D.C., to pursue SVSU’s policy goals and help improve college access and attainment in Michigan. Kaczynski has nearly two decades of experience working in higher education, including 17 years at SVSU. He holds Bachelor of Science and a Master of Public Administration degrees from Central Michigan University.
Kaczynski also serves as chairperson for the Michigan Works! Association statewide Board of Directors and vice-chair for the Michigan Political History Society. He also serves on the Michigan Political Leadership Program Advisory Board and Youth Solutions, Inc. Board of Directors. In the Great Lakes Bay region, he serves on the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce and the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce boards of directors. He is also a member of Frankenmuth Rotary and serves on the Frankenmuth City Council.
“As MCAN expands into workforce engagement and implementing our Strategy for an Educated Workforce, we are excited to add John Kaczynski’s expertise to our board,” said Ryan Fewins-Bliss, MCAN executive director. “As we work to reach Sixty by 30, we need to ensure that all students — especially low-income students, first-generation college-going students and students of color — have equitable access to affordable postsecondary education that prepares them for fulfilling careers.”
“I am honored to serve MCAN as a member of its Board of Directors,” said Kaczynski. “As an individual who has served postsecondary educational institutions for nearly 20 years, I look forward to working with Ryan Fewins-Bliss and Board Chairperson Sara McCauley on advancing the mission of MCAN and increasing college preparedness, participation and completion in Michigan.”
