Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has called for the expansion of Futures for Frontliners, a tuition-free scholarship program for frontline workers, to meet increased demand and popularity. The scholarships would now include workers who served between Nov. 1, 2020, and Jan. 31, 2021.
In response to the announcement, Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) shared the following statement from its executive director, Ryan Fewins-Bliss.
“Michigan College Access Network supports the expansion of Futures for Frontliners to increase access to affordable educational pathways for Michigan’s heroes. The initial outpouring of interest in the scholarship program was phenomenal, and it demonstrates a strong desire within Michigan’s workforce for greater economic opportunities. Expanding this program would reaffirm the state’s commitment to its Sixty by 30 goal, as thousands of frontline workers — especially people of color, low-income workers and potential first-generation college-going students — would be given a chance to reach their education and career goals.”
