Michigan Retired Educator FAFSA Specialist (REFS)

Launched in partnership with the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential and the Office of Sixty by 30, the Michigan Retired Educator FAFSA Specialist (REFS) program aims to boost FAFSA completion and college enrollment among adult learners aged 21-24 in Michigan’s community and tribal colleges. This initiative will primarily target adult learners eligible for Michigan Reconnect Expansion, utilizing retired school counselors and other former educational professionals. The primary objective of the Michigan Retired Educator FAFSA Specialists (REFS) will be to prioritize MCAN's mission-aligned populations, particularly individuals of color and/or from low-income backgrounds, who are currently not engaged in Michigan Reconnect.

This program will launch spring 2024 and will conclude by by October 2024. MCAN is currently seeking retired K-12 and/or college educators and school counselors to fill REFS positions across the state.
